Fickell Offered Job at Notre Dame

Luke Fickell, Ohio State Co-Defensive Coordinator, has been offered an assistant coaching position with Notre Dame. I don't know about anyone else but I did a double take when I read this. I'm surprised that Fickell even interviewed for a lateral move. I understand that he has ties to Tenuta who coached Fickell when he played for Ohio State, but I still really can't believe he's even interested. For that matter, it concerns me that he's interested.
Fickell is a rising star in the coaching ranks. He was a hot commodity for a lot of MAC jobs that just opened up and didn't take them seriously. Fickell has said he doesn't want to uproot his family from Central Ohio. He seems to be happy. I assume that's why he hasn't jumped on a head coaching offer from a MAC school. I assume Fickell aspires to be a head coach one day, possibly even dreaming of being the head coach of the Buckeyes when Tressel retires.
I still scratch my head as to why he might consider leaving the Buckeyes for an assistant job at Notre Dame. He's not being offered Notre Dame's defensive coordinator job.
Part of it could be he's getting frustrated working under Heacock. Yes, he's a Co-Defensive coordinator but Heacock is over Fickell. Or it could be a way to leverage more money. Heacock makes $80,000 more than Fickell.
Whatever the situation, Notre Dame should not take Luke Fickell from the Buckeyes unless it's a promotion, which it doesn't appear it will be. Tressel and Ohio State need to take care of this situation.
