Ohio State excels at North American Cup

Dec. 26, 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Sophomore Andras Horanyi won the men's foil competition to lead the Ohio State fencing team at the North American Cup held last weekend on Dec. 11 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Va. A total of 21 Buckeyes, including three volunteer assistant coaches, represented Ohio State at the event, with eight earned Top 20 finishes.

The North American Cup (NAC) is the title of a series of national tournaments held throughout the country each year and serves as the point system used for determining spots on U.S. national teams. The next NAC competition will be held Jan. 13-14 in Columbus, Ohio and will mark Ohio State's final competition before the collegiate regular season begins Jan. 20-21 at the Notre Dame Duels. The Buckeyes have place in the Top 4 in the nation each of the last five years.

With the first-place finish, Horanyi (Boulder, Colo.) appears ready to make a run at a possible individual collegiate national title in March. Last season, Horanyi finished second in the nation to three-time champion and OSU teammate Boaz Ellis (Moshav Zippori, Israel), now a volunteer assistant coach for the Buckeyes, who tied for third in foil at the NAC this past weekend.

GO BROWNS, TRIBE, BUCKEYES, CAVS, YSU, and yes I like ND plus GO NAVY, beat Army!!

It's so hard to go undefeated, only one major D-1A team has ever gone 14-0 in the history of the college football and win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Jim Tressel and The OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY BUCKEYES!

It's great to be a Buckeye!  Especially when you're at the top of almost all college sports.
