my friend is a huge buckeye fan but he continues to tell me that james Laurenitus is overrated. Its hard for me to hold back and not slap him because of his ignorance. I just cant see through the awards and the interceptions and the fact that he was one of the teams leading tacklers. Does anyone share my friends opinion? If you do thats fine it's just mind boggling to me to see how well he has done and he is only a sopomore.

Laurenitus is only a sophomore.  And to accomplish what he did and to play at the level he played at so early it's crazy to call him overrated.

He has a few things he should work on.  He seemed to miss a few tackles here and there but he knows where the play is and he makes big plays on defense.

IMO, and almost all others, James is not overrated.

James is awesome. He has great talent and could really be someone in the NFL. I love watching this kid. It seems like he is everywhere. He is not overrated at all.

Last summer somewhere on this website I tried to rank the top ten best linebackers that played at OSU.  I wouldn't say he is in that ball park yet, but he maybe before his time is up at Ohio State.  James Laurenitus is a damn good football player, but like your friend that is my option.  I'll tell you the best way to judge a defensive player is to look after the tackle, not just who made the tackle but who is around the ball.  That will show you who as a nose for the ball.  Not saying a good linebacker will be around the ball ever play, but I bet if pay attention during the National Championship game you'll see #33 around the ball almost every play.  He is Big, Fast, has a nose for the ball, and great hands.  Watching him this year I think he has really improved on getting off a block to make tackles.  One more statement I'll make is James is only a sophomore, it is not often you see sophomores get the honors he has gotten.

James Laurenitus is the saviour for this defence that lost 9 of 11 players to the NFL.

His importance may be greater than his talent....a bit for now. Still he's one of the best LBs in the USA and will only get better next year.  Let's hope so, next year the BUCKEYES are going to lose a ton of "O" guys to the NFL.

Time for Tressel to "lock and re-load", again

BTW he was 4th in the Coach of the Year (too much talent?), he might need to earn it  next year!

It's so hard to go undefeated, only one major D-1A team has ever gone 14-0 in the history of the college football and win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Would have liked to see that list.  Give Laurenitus 2 more years and we'll see if he can make his way on it.  Next year will be a good test.  As it looks now we will have to be winning games defensively.

Like I said this list was my opinion based on their stats, awards and what I read about them.  I think the top 5 or 6 could go in any order.  Matt Wilhelm might be a stretch in that list but he did have one heck of a year, I had to add him. I could see James in this list.
