Teen Punched for Not Turning Off iPhone During Flight Landing

An elderly man, 68 was arrested last night for punching a teenager in the arm during a Southwest Airlines flight.

Why so grumpy? Apparently, the boy wouldn't shut off his iPhone as the plane was landing.

During a flight from Las Vegas, Nevada to Boise, Idaho, Russell Earl Miller, 68, apparently lost his temper when a 15-year-old passenger ignored intercom requests to shut off electronic devices as the plane prepared to land. Witnesses told police that Miller punched the unaccompanied young passenger in the arm.

Miller was arrested upon landing and charged with one count of misdemeanor battery.

Lieutenant Kent Kipple of the Boise police told KBOI 2News that Miller punched the boy so hard it left a mark on the teen's arm.

"That gave us probable cause to believe the reports from the other passengers," Lipple said.

A Southwest spokeswoman declined to comment on the incident, but said the airline requires all phones and electronics to be turned off during takeoff and landing.

Here is another way to handle the situation.  Ask the nimrod these 2 questions.

1.  Do you know what the FAA fine is for not following the instruction of a flight crew?
2.  Would you like to find out?

Its worked for me twice.   biggrin
