Moeller to get a sixth year with Buckeyes Posted by John Taylor on November 18, 2010, 10:45 AM EST
While it won’t help Ohio State’s battered and bruised defense this year, the Buckeyes did receive some positive news on the defensive front Wednesday.
After what turned out to be a successful appeal to the NCAA, defensive back Tyler Moeller was granted a sixth year of eligibility and will be permitted to play in 2011.
The senior suffered a torn pectoral muscle in early October that knocked him out for the remainder of the 2010 season. Additionally, he missed the entire 2009 season because of a head injury suffered in the offseason after being assaulted at a Florida bar.
Moeller was informed of the NCAA’s decision by head coach Jim Tressel in yesterday’s post-practice huddle.
“He said, ‘We’ve got some good news. Tyler Moeller got a medical redshirt, and he has another year,’” Moeller said.
“It’s great to have another year. My mind has been 5 million different places for the past couple of weeks. It’s great to know I’ll have another year here and another chance to play.”
Moeller will graduate this spring with a degree in business.
