Injury likely sidelines starting Buckeye DB for rest of '10
Posted by John Taylor on September 14, 2010 1:21 PM ET

Unfortunately for No. 2 Ohio State, their guarded optimism when it came to the extent of the injury suffered by C.J. Barnett proved to be incorrect.

Speaking on a teleconference Tuesday, head coach Jim Tressel announced that the starting safety suffered what will likely turn out to be a season-ending knee injury this past weekend.

"We really hate to lose him," Tressel said, "because I thought he was playing very physical and he was really starting to learn the game."

Barnett, who started the first two games of the year, was injured during the third quarter of the Buckeyes' win over Miami Saturday.  He will undergo surgery at some point today to repair the damage.

Orhian Johnson is expected to take over for Barnett in the starting lineup.

I had a feeling the injury was going to be worse than people were saying initially. Sigh...

He's a sophomore.  Wink

We are pretty young in the secondary.  Hopefully this loss won't damage the secondary very much.

Sad to see this happen, but I was afraid it was bad.
