OSU prez open to splitting Buckeyes and Wolverines

College football is a game of opposites. We thrive on high scoring spread offenses and look to see what uniform combination our schools will be wearing on game day. Yet, we are nostalgically reminded of the past and the traditions that bring back so many memories.
"Play like a champion today", dotting the "i", the Texas State Fair at the Cotton Bowl, the Third Saturday in October and, even though the football has been awful for years, a crisp November day at West Point are just some of the things that make college football so great.
So when Ohio State president Gordon Gee expressed his openness of moving his school and Michigan to separate divisions within the new Big Ten, it was just one more nail in what could be the coffin of conference tradition.
"The answer is yes, there is a possibility," Gee said about keeping the OSU-UM rivalry in its traditional spot. "Nothing has been put finally on paper or voted on among the representatives, so until that takes place, all things are possible."
Like athletic director Gene Smith, Gee is pulling the "I'm not saying it's not going to happen, but I may, or may not, be saying that it is going to happen" card.
"Honestly, there are people who are emotional and you know, they're not giving me anything different. They're telling me what I already know. I really appreciate the information from the people who are obviously being thoughtful and are giving me good information," remarked Gee. "I've gotten models, I've gotten historical data, I've gotten a lot of stuff that makes sense."
Translation: we appreciate the concern, but...
In a radio interview with WBNS in Columbus, Gee hinted that splitting Ohio State and Michigan into separate divisions was under serious consideration. If that's the case, count on some very angry fans.
One of my favorite radio personalities, Colin Cowherd, is famous for saying "You have to evolve." Maybe so, but the question that needs to be asked is "How much is it worth monetarily to remove decades of tradition?" I for one always thought games like Ohio State-Michigan were priceless.

DUMB IDEA to even consider it.
Let OHIO STATE play "m" every year, winner moves on, period!!
I'm sure most B10 fans agree!!

It's so hard to go undefeated, only one major D-1A team has ever gone 14-0 in the history of the college football and win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Hell yeah! It's what the Big Ten thrives on, this awesome rivalry, sure it has lost it's spark but most of the games have been memorable. Separating OSU and UM in different conferences takes away from that as well as reducing our chances playing against the M every season.
An idea that freakin' stupid should NEVER be considered to begin with!

They are going to do it. They don't want OSU, UM and PSU in the same division. Georgraphically you can't really put PSU in with most of the western teams. OSU would even be a stretch. They're going to put UM and MSU in with Nebraska and Iowa. The question I have is do they boot Wisky in with us? If not the divisions look unbalanced toward the western side. Here is what I think it's going to be.
Div 1:
OSU
PSU
Purdue
Indiana
Illinois
Wisconsin
Div 2:
UM
MSU
Nebraska
Iowa
NW
Minnesota
Think about if you flip NW and Wisconsin. That makes our division fairly easy IMO.

Announcement by the BigTen expected tonight from what I am reading.
Looks like there will still be "a" The Game, probably in October, there just won't be "THE" The Game that occurs the last game of the season.
I don't like it, but I imagine I will get used to it.
