Seantrel on his status at USC: 'I don't want to talk about that'

Posted by John Taylor on June 24, 2010 10:21 AM ET

After holding it together in the immediate aftermath of NCAA-levied sanctions, it appears that the biggest fish in Lane Kiffin's 2010 recruiting class is slipping from his grasp.

We noted yesterday how Kiffin and three other members of the USC football program took a private jet to visit Seantrel Henderson last week after the mammoth offensive tackle did not attend freshman orientation as expected.  His father has since refused to comment on his son's status, and now so is the son.

Playing in a pro-am basketball league Tuesday night, Henderson was asked about his status with USC.

"I don't want to talk about that," Henderson said according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Henderson is apparently put off by the fact that, during the recruiting process, Kiffin told him that there would be no serious penalties placed on the Trojans.

If Henderson does try to transfer from USC, he would be forced to sit out a transfer year before becoming eligible to play football.  Miami and Ohio State would likely be potential destinations if Henderson decides to play elsewhere.

Here's an update....

USC to release Seantrel Henderson from LOI
Posted by John Taylor on July 6, 2010 4:24 PM ET

Thankfully, it appears that the Seantrel Henderson circus saga may be over.

Per reports from both Joe Schad of ESPN and Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times, Lane Kiffin has released Henderson from his USC Letter of Intent, freeing the top-ranked prospect to move on to another school without sitting out a transfer season.

"As of 1:30 p.m, we are releasing Seantrel Henderson out of his national letter of intent with zero penalties and no restrictions," Kiffin said. "Seantrel has been great through the whole process and we wish him the best of luck in his decision."

Henderson was rumored to have been in Miami this past weekend -- after twice being visited by members of the Trojans football program in an attempt to "re-recruit" the tackle -- so the Hurricanes would be an obvious destination.  The Hurricanes have a scholarship available, so there would be no issues on that end.

Additionally, Ohio State was high on the offensive lineman's to-go list before he settled on a verbal commitment to USC this past February.

Either way, the circus saga has seemingly come to an end, at least as far as the Trojans are concerned.  Hopefully, Henderson is a little more decisive on his destination and does not drag it out for days/weeks.

Well, so much for that....

As expected, Seantrel Henderson heading to the Hurricanes
Posted by John Taylor on July 9, 2010 3:19 PM ET

LeBron James isn't the only big name making South Florida his new sports home for the next few years.

According to the New York Times, and as widely expected, former USC signee Seantrel Henderson has decided to become a member of the Miami Hurricanes.  Henderson's father confirmed the move to the Times.

Henderson, arguably the top player in the 2010 recruiting class, was given an unconditional release from his USC Letter of Intent on July 6.  Henderson will reportedly arrive in Miami on Aug. 3 and, according to his father, is academically qualified.

The official move to Coal Gables is the culmination of weeks of speculation and rumors that Henderson's feet were getting cold due to sanctions handed down on the Trojans by the NCAA, and that he was leaning toward a move to the Hurricanes.

Good grief.  Oh well.  Would have been nice to have his talent but he seems to have a big ego.
