the Memorial and the Tiger effect

My brother works for the City of Dublin, so he asked me if I wanted to come down (from Akron) to join him at the tournament for Sunday's final round. We were along the 12th green, when we heard the deafening roar behind us. No one had to say a thing - we knew what had happened, but we were wrong. We were thinking birdie, when it actually was the eagle chip in.
It is AMAZING just how normal conversation carries through a golf course. And it's more amazing many people follow one golfer all the way around 18 holes. The noise that that many people generate, just walking, is real. I now fully believe in "The Tiger Effect." No wonder so many competitors crush under that pressure.
One last thing - this was my first trip ever to see a tournament live. The course is a jewel, obviously. But the TV cameras cannot do justice to how sloped the fairways are, and how undulating the greens are. Me, if I'm ANYWHERE on a green in regulation, I'm dancing. But these guys have about a 3 foot window to properly land their shots. Like the ad says, "These guys are good."

I would love to get there some day for a tournament. Maybe when I am too old to play myself. :^)
I have only witnessed "live" a Champions Tour event that used to be held here in Grand Rapids. Even the "old guys" are good. What surprised me was that some of the golfers actually yacked back and forth with the fans. That was pretty cool. I am one to follow a group or groups around.

That's the beauty of the Champions tour. These guys have already made their mark in the game. Yes, they're trying to beat each others brain in, but they realize that they, and the fans, are just people too. A little interaction goes a long, long way towards growing that tour.

Oh yes! It's amazing what gifted atheletes can do....and with thousands of hours of practice, workouts, dedication.
And they make it look so easy which is even amplified on TV with all the cameras, slo-mo and other special effects.
As far as Tiger or MJ or LeBron they sure can fill the house.

It's so hard to go undefeated, only one major D-1A team has ever gone 14-0 in the history of the college football and win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Tiger's Sunday approach shot to 18 should go down on the list titled "The Top Ten Shots of Tournament Golf - EVER!"
All we will have to see is that ball landing on the green and curling towards the hole - and we'll know exactly what shot it was and when.

I can visualize with you Brook, the narrow area those golfers place that ball on. Been to the tourney when they had it at Jack Nicklaus golf course at Kings Island. Seeing the "army" of Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, Payne Stewart was unreal. And to watch the greats play was a experience.
