For the third straight season, the four players appearing on the front of the media guide ended up being announced as captains several weeks later.
Yesterday, the school released this season’s captains: quarterback Troy Smith, center Doug Datish and defensive tackles Quinn Pitcock and David Patterson.
All four are seniors. Smith, Datish and Pitcock are fifth-year seniors. Among them, they have 128 games of experience.
"This is a terrific honor to be elected captain by your teammates," Smith said in a statement. "Work is just getting started. We have had a great training camp. Now we just need to keep going."
The top-ranked Buckeyes broke fall camp yesterday. They have the weekend off before beginning preparations for the Sept. 2 opener against Northern Illinois. Kickoff is 3:36 p.m. on ABC. [/quote]
