We've noticed a lot of new sign ups that we believe to be spam bots.  This hasn't caused any issues yet as they haven't been able to get through our spam protection and post and hopefully that continues.  However, if you see a spam post with a bunch of links with various titles please, report the post and DO NOT CLICK THE LINKS!

Might be a good idea to have all of your email addresses HIDDEN!

If you use em addresses use "junk" boxes at yahoo or wherever.

Some bots harvest valid email addresses, I notice a lot of sites now have users list email addresses as joeb-at-abc dot com now.

We had the same problem over at Browns24/7. I am a mod over there and it's been really crazy. But my Dad (Tune) switched to a different software and we haven't had any problems at all. But the weird thing is we switched to this software. So you guys shouldn't be getting any spam. I guess it's just a matter of time before they find us again  dry

DawgBone,

Did you guys delete the obvious spam members? Any followup problems?

Yes, we deleted the posts they posted and banned them. But it started to get really annoying so we moved the site for the 3rd time I believe.

Not because of spammers but for other reasons. Like the site going down all the time. Oh, and once when the site was hacked.

The bad news is the bots can sign up but the good news is they haven't been able to post yet.  So the antispam measures we have are working.  Mjp and I will be working to delete know spambot accounts as we see them.

Well that's good. If I see any new weird named accounts at Browns24/7 then I will just bam them before they can do any damage.

Good to hear that we all have the same gameplan.

Looks like we have a new member that sounds like a spammer. Might want to check it out... I would if I was a mod.

Just got done deleting about 6 accounts.  Seems these spambots are using mail.ru and gmail accounts.

I had heard of quite a few people that had IPB that switched to something else because the spam was getting through so easily.

We've been on SMF for almost 2 years and we love it.

Yeah, I realized that. This software is sorta cheesy for my taste but if it's going to keep the spam away and keep the site running, then that's what you have to do.
