Here is the Dispatch article:

My only comment regards Ray's Dad.

He is doing his son a huge injustice by not backing the coaching staff and the suspension.  His son is flipping his finger in the face of authority by continuing to miss classes and show up late for meetings.  There is clearly something wrong with a kid that does that.  By his Dad taking a "my kid never does anything wrong, he/she is being singled out" attitude, he is not going to help Ray come to grips with whatever the problem is.  What a shame ....

What gets me is that some of these so called parents want and expect schools and its staff to not only educate thier kids, coach thier kids...............but also parent thier kids. And when thier kids gets outta line , or does some things that need discipline , that parent or parents have an issue.

I have young relatives that attend OSU, and some relatives that work on Campus. And sometimes these football players walk around like thier holier than thou..................these kids need to be put back in thier place , and brought back to reality at times, even if it hurts ole daddies feelings.

There are Buckeyes, and then there is Chris Spielman.  This is a man that needs no introduction; he embodies not only what it should mean to be a Buckeye, but what it should mean to be a football player and a man.  Simply put, there cannot possibly be anyone out there who does not respect Chris Spielman.  The man was born to play football as he rose from the storied Massillon Tigers to OSU to the NFL.

I find it hard to believe that JT would single Small out and just be picking on him.

I agree with the coaching staff on this one. When you're given a scholarship to play a sport in an elite university such as Ohio State, you honor it by being obedient and earn your place in that team. No player is above the team and even thinking that you are shows no discipline whatsoever.

Small's father isn't exactly finding the solution for the problem either, denying that his son would be so disrespectful. That's just a harsh lesson that Ray would have to learn and make sure it doesn't happen again. I believe Jim Tressel had a good reason to suspend him.

ESPN is reporting that the suspension is indefinite.

OHIO STATE WR’S DAD: “THEY’RE TRYING TO RUIN HIS CAREER”
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 6, 2008, 1:26 p.m. EST

Ohio State wide receiver Ray Small has been suspended from the team, and his father says Ohio State’s coaches are hurting his son.

“We don’t think he’s getting a fair shake, and we don’t know why,” Ken Small said of the way Jim Tressel and his staff have treated Ray. “It seems they’re trying to intentionally ruin his career.”

Ken Small’s biggest complaint is that Ohio State won’t just release Ray from his scholarship, which the Small family asked for in the spring, when Ray faced team discipline for being late to classes. But while it might seem unfair that a kid who wants to go elsewhere isn’t being allowed to leave, that’s a long way from trying to ruin his career.

And, frankly, both Ray and Ken Small should know that when a player’s dad has to fight his battles for him, it tends to reinforce the perception that he’s not conducting himself responsibly.

Ray Small’s current suspension is, officially, for an undetermined length of time, and the result of an undisclosed violation of team rules. But the Smalls say it’s for two games, and because Ray was accused of missing a class, even though he hadn’t.

A 5-foot-11, 180-pound junior, Small leads the Big Ten in punt returns with a 13.2-yard average, and he was the team’s leading receiver early in the season, before Tressel started limiting his playing time. But despite his talent, Tressel may be close to the point where he decides Small is not worth the headaches, and gives him the release from his scholarship he’s been asking for.

TRUE!!

I read in USA TODAY they agree he was late for class (or meetings?).

Time for junior to grow up and appreciate the ~$xxx, xxx scholarship he's getting.
Most students get nothing, just ask their parents, you know the ones not crying about anything.

It's so hard to go undefeated, only one major D-1A team has ever gone 14-0 in the history of the college football and win the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

The fact that Smalls dad is doing this is probably a good reason why Ray has the issues he does.  Always with an excuse, and someone else always has done something worse.  Man up and do what you're supposed to do.

I think they should let Small transfer without penalty.  Let him go somewhere else and play next year.

This kid has been in trouble since he stepped foot at OSU.  JT is not picking on him and this kid and his dad are acting irresponsibly.  I just don't believe JT would be trying to ruin Smalls career or life.

Whats funny is this is the same Ray Small who was running his mouth before the USC game saying that USC is nothing, but a football factory and they care only about football and a place like OSU cares more about football, they actually make you a better man. How comical is that now?  LOL  I doubt he asked for a release in the spring. If he did, maybe that's why he has had a few drops and a couple fumbles.   stink
