Here is a good read.

I agree 100% with Oller, it was despicable that fans booed Boeckman.  IMO, booing and ranting incessantly about a college athlete's shortcomings is one of the reasons that Ohio State fans have a reputation of "classlessness".  Talk about losing perspective ... some folks ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I didn't like that Boeckman was booed.  These kids are college athletes.  I remember when it happened I looked at my wife and said I really wish that didn't happen.

Yea, it was really sad that he got boo'd.  That showed very little class.

However, WTH was that pass that he threw?!?  If he can't handle that kind of pressure then he really has no business being out there.

However, WTH was that pass that he threw?!?

Hard to tell from 100s of miles away watching on TV, but it sure looked bad.  Maybe it was tipped at the line of scrimmage.  Afterall, we know that "4 or 5 passes" that he throws per game are tipped at the line of scrimmage.   rolleyes

Terrelle sure looked great, though.  It would have been nice to see him complete a few passes on 3rd down for 1st downs, but I'm betting that will eventually come.

Look you get cheered when you play good, and you get booed when you play bad. I have no problem with booing a player for bad performances.........what I cannot stand is the obsenities and name calling from some who take it over the edge. That is what is ridiculous.

Bottomline though..........this is football, and if Todd cannot handle the booing for his bad play than he needs to play another position or pick another game. This guy obviously does not have it mentaly to be a QB. You need to be tough not only physically but mentaly, and Todd just doesn't have it . This kind of reminds me of Tim Couch in Cleveland. He was worried about what everyone thought...........instead of just going out and doing his job. Who cares if people boo..........let m boo, it should give you more motivation to get back out there if anything and get better ( which in this case, Todd has had 5 yrs to get better ).

Chris Spielman
There are Buckeyes, and then there is Chris Spielman.  This is a man that needs no introduction; he embodies not only what it should mean to be a Buckeye, but what it should mean to be a football player and a man.  Simply put, there cannot possibly be anyone out there who does not respect Chris Spielman.  The man was born to play football as he rose from the storied Massillon Tigers to OSU to the NFL.

There are a lot of alumni like myself that do care when some fans make ALL Ohio State fans look idiotic by displaying boorish behavior like we saw on Saturday.  As Oller wrote, Todd Boeckman did not deserve that kind of treatment.

From the Dispatch:

Todd Boeckman, who was the starting quarterback for an Ohio State team that won a Big Ten championship and played in the national title game last season, was booed during his brief appearance last week against Troy. Left tackle Alex Boone took note, and likely would have taken names if he'd had the chance.

"I thought it was very rude and disrespectful," Boone said after practice yesterday. "For somebody to boo a player who took us to a championship, that shows no respect for that player."

The crowd responded after Boeckman, subbing for new starter Terrelle Pryor, threw his lone pass into the ground. Boone figured the boos were a carryover from those upset by Boeckman's three-turnover game in the 35-3 loss at top-ranked Southern California the week before.

"He didn't play so great against USC, but who did; we all got smashed," Boone said. "People started booing him, and everyone kind of got mad about that.

AutoModGod:  This situation is more complicated than a player being "tough" and "being able to take it."  As can be seen in Boone's comments, it can impact the mentality and therefore the performance of the entire team.

"He's taking it like a champ. He's doing great, and doing great in practice. He just needs to take it in stride."

AutoModGod:  Apparently Alex Boone thinks Boeckman is "tough" and dealing with the situation well, for what that is worth.

That's what coach Jim Tressel counseled. Even though the right to express oneself comes with the ticket, he said, hearing the boos, "That's disappointing," because above all else, "Todd Boeckman is a first-class guy."

Todd is obviously a very well liked guy on the team.   Even Krenzel was struggling in an interview with TB losing the starting job since Krenzel knows Todd so well and likes him.

JT made the right decision in putting Pryor as the starter.   Boeckman is still an important part of this team and the fans need to remember that.  I didn't like that he was booed.  We Buckeye fans need to be more respectful to student athletes than that.  This isn't the NFL, it's college.

The booing of Boeckman was a classless act, but the person to blame isn't the fans or Boeckman for his play. The person to blame in Jim Tressel. Because he should've seen what the rest of the country knew before they even got on the football feild to play one game. Boeckman flops in big games. Todd isn't as good as Pryor. They practice together. If Jim Tressel didn't see that in practice he's blind. Boekcman is more of a game manager and Pryors a future Heisman candidate who can do it all. If he would've played them 50/50 off the bat and not made it a gaem time decision vs USC maybe our team could've came up with some sort of game plan for how we are going to play with two different QBs. U can't just spring that information on a team and expect them to adjust to it during the game against the #1 team in the nation.

Blame JT for classless fans booing Todd Boeckman?  Borrowing the infamous words of Mike Ditka, "who you crappin'?   ....   laughing on floor

Serious question .... how many of Ohio State's practices have you attended?  Must have been most of them if you think that JT has been "blind" in practice to Terrelle's talent.  Heck, JT said before the season started that TP was picking up the system faster than expected and was going to play a significant role on the team this year.  He has done exactly that as his role has gotten more and more significant as he has become more and more confortable handling the entire offense.

Another serious question ... what makes you think that JT "sprung" the rotating QB play that we used versus USC on the team at game time?  Is it because the first WE (the TV audience) heard about it was when Herby "announced" it in the pregame show?  That does not mean that the team did not know about it for days in advance.  Heck, everyone in the media was speculating that JT would do exactly what he did against USC, use both QBs to keep USC off balance.  Unfortunately, it did not work.  Sometimes things don't work out when you try to be "imaginative."
