College isnt a Slam Dunk for O.J. Mayo

Sometime during the next few days--the start of the NCAA's summer evaluation period for basketball recruits--O.J. Mayo is expected to sit down with reporters and recruiting analysts and announce his college selection from a list that has been whittled more or less to Kansas State and Southern California. What i dont understand is why a player of his caliber would have these schools as top choices. They are far from being dominant. Kansas State has newly aquired head coach Bob Huggins and Southern Cal is coached by Tim FLoyd but has been nothing but unspectacular.
You think Thad Matta tried to recruit Mayo, we would be crazy not to bring the "next LeBron" to OSU for atleast a year or two along side Oden and the rest of the "Thad 5"
Thoughts.

From what I've heard Mayo has some
serious
character issues. He's not necessarily the next LeBron. I'm pretty sure he's been kicked out of Northern Hills HS and is going to play next year in Kentucky because of being expelled in an Ohio high school.
I'm also pretty sure that Thad did recruit him.
It's not surprising that his choices are USC and K-State. USC because of the climate and Hollywood scene. K-State because Mayo is very close to Huggins.
If I had to guess, Mayo will pick K-State.

I heard he's even considering skipping college and going to the NBDL until he's eligible for the NBA draft. He's also a year ahead of everyone in his class, so his lawyers are trying to say he should be eligible for the draft this year. I think OJ has Maurice Clarett written all over him...

Also, think of him going to a Duke or UNC where he "might" play second tier to another star. That is, from what I've heard, part of his reasoning to go to USC.

i think we can all make a 100 percent assumption that Mayo would choose USC for the Hollywood scene. With Kobe being around and Mayo already being used through the media over the last few years, like LeBron. HE wants to be the basketball "star" like Reggie and Leinart were for the football team.

I really don't think OJ Mayo would play second tier to anyone, regardless of the program he chooses. I think he could step into the NBA and get regular playing time. When he was a sophomore, sports illustrated said he could start at that moment for the Toronto Raptors. Sadly, I think his head is going to prevent him from coming close to his full potential. I would kill to be half as gifted at basketball as OJ Mayo, and he just seems willing to piss it all away.

without a doubt he is going to piss away a marvelous career. He has already been expelled from College Hill or suspended for 180 days, i cant quite remember the story to it if anyone can find some information on that. He seems to think his status will let him get away with anything he wants..hence Maurice Clarett as previously stated by ACES. If he can find a way to keep his head on his shoulders, he could be something worth buying tickets over.
