Now we all know Coach Tressel is the best coach in College Football, but who is your top 5 or top 10.  I'm talking about right now, not great in the past.  If you want to give your reason why that would be good.  I'll have to think about this one.

That's a tough one.  Let's see....

1. JT.  He's tops in my book.  I wouldn't want any other coach at tOSU.  He has great teams, great players, great men and his players do well academically.

2. Pete Carrol.  Great college coach.  His players respond to his style very well.

3. Mark Richt.  Has done a great job at UG. His teams are perennial contenders every year now.

4. Urban Myer.  He's been successful everywhere he's gone and he had a decent team last year with Florida.

5.  Charlie Wies.  I don't like the guy, I think he's arrogant but 4 super bowl rings can do that.  He did a great job with ND last year and ND appears positioned to make a run this year.

6. Kirk Ferenz. He brought Iowa back and done great things for that program.  His teams are always very well coached and he's really building that program.

7.  Mac Brown.  Maybe not the best x's and o's coach but he always has great players and did just win a NC.

8.  JoPa.  Did a great job with PSU last season.  Probably overachieved with that team.  Nice to see PSU back.  Let's see what he can do with this years team.

.....Now I'm getting stumped.......

9.  Rich Rodriguez.  He's doing great things with the WVU program.  Has them as a potential preseason top 5.

...scratching my head, flipping a coin.......

10.  Tommy Tuberville.  Has had some great teams recently with Auburn.  Has them at the top in early polls for 06.

How's that?

2 questions:

1. Is Pete Carroll really a good coach? I mean, how hard is it to recruit stud players to the warm embrace of Southern California? Recruiting guru, sure. Field general, I'm not sold on it.....yet.

2. Joe Pa. How much control does he have over the readying a team, making important off the field decisions, and play calling? I have heard speculations that he is nothing more than a figure head at PSU, and most of the team operations are delegated to the assisstant coaches (moreso than usual). I'm not bashing him in the least, but I am questioning that at this point in his life how much of a coach he really is.

I think Pete is a good coach.  He has to be a decent coach to run off the winning streak and championship he did.  Yes, he had all the talent in the world but that doesn't always win you games.  Look at John Cooper.

JoPa: It doesn't surprise me that he delegates a lot of responsibility.  I think I even read that a while ago.  Which is why he's doing a lot more fund raising and stuff.  Whatever they're doing at PSU is working.  The really turned it around last year.
