No further details were available, but a source said Matta had experienced numbness in a foot recently, possibly indicating a herniated disk.

Matta has had recurring back problems during his three years at Ohio State.

The injury was related to a tragic gum-chewing accident where he injured his back after his gum fell out of his mouth mid-game last season.
